Creating a calender with gimp

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

Do you need a quick Christmas present for your Grandma? And you know that she was always fond of your travel photos?

Then try the free GIMP Kalender Plugin from naturfotokalender.de. It is a free and easy to use plugin for the well known gimp graphics program. Moritz Mekelburger is the original author and created it for Kalender drucken, that is how we germans call “calendar printing”.

This program proofed to be a really powerful tool, and so it was enhanced by naturfotokalender.de in order to be able to create the whole year at once. There is a good set of instructions called Kalender erstellen mit eigenen Fotos.

The calender plugin lets you choose a directory with pictures for every month, then creates a gimp pic with all the months as layers. The next step is to indicate where you want your calender to be rendered and then you start the plugin again. You have to state the year for which the calender is created and off you go!

After the plugin is done you have 12 pictures each embedded with a calender for the corresponding month.

The site itself features a lot more, there is a fine collection of calenders with nature photography, so the site is worth a visit no matter if you want to create your own calender or not.

Preparing Your Next Trip

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

Choosing your destination that’s the most important step in trip planning. It’s apparent, and it may seem easy, but let’s take a look at the things you should think about as you start to prepare your trip and make your conclusion.

Several of these things will be running in the background of your head when you’re picking out your destination, but just so you don’t make any mistakes. There is a list with several of the major concerns.

You have some time to go on vacation. Is that a set time of year that you can’t change? The time of year will play a role in choosing your vacation spot. Do you want to travel to a vacation spot like Aruba where it’s hot so you can sit on the beach? Or do you favor a place where it’s cold so you can enjoy winter sports? Are you planning it around a special event or trying to avoid crowds|keep off the beaten track}? Do you wish to take a sail?

Do you desire to do some activities, skiing or hiking? Or do you just like to relax on your getaway? Go to go} shopping, sightseeing, or explore museums? Or do you want to have the options to go either way. Do you have children or other family members to consider? It’s always great to make your trip a family decision. It may be a good idea to consider making Disney World affordable. Your children would like to visit this astonishing place. And talking about others, do you like to travel on your own or choosing an all-inclusive vacation package where everything is planned for you?

How long is your vacation time? If you only have a few days, that will restrain what you can do. If you have 2 or 3 weeks or even more, you have so many options like going on stunning Hawaii vacation tours}. You can go further, plan for more activities, or more relaxing time. Several people say they will need a week to relax, so even if you just want to unwind for a few days, you may require more than a week to get into that relaxed zone.

Don’t Touch Our Scottish Kilts

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

Ask almost anyone to think of 5 things that definitely Scottish and they will almost always include the tartan kilt. After a rebellion against the English Government then ruling our country the English Parliament outlawed Scots from wearing national costume including tartan and the kilt. Yet today any person living in anywhere in the world can set up a factory and make something that looks like a Scottish Kilt and describe it on the label as a Scottish kilt.

If however you produce a bottle of sparkling wine and call it Champagne no matter how good it tastes you will feel the full force of the law charging down on you confiscating your stock and serving you with writs to stop immediately. It is the same with Parmesan that can only be made in a small area of Italy.

It now looks increasingly likely that this brand protection will be offered to our Scottish Kilt. If this move in the European Parliament succeeds only kilts that were hand sewn, made in Scotland and made from pure wool could be known as a Scottish kilt.

Low priced and poor quality kilts have in recent years been exported from mainly India and China which are being advertised as Scottish Kilts even if they have seen the light of day in Scotland. At a time when Scotland is experiencing it largest ever tourist boom people are buying these imported “Scottish Kilts” and seeing them come apart after only being worn maybe once or twice are assuming that these “Scottish products” are inferior quality so damaging our national reputation.

A professional kilt maker in Scotland will use around 8 metres of a heavy pure wool when making a average size kilt. His length is necessary to give the Scottish Kilt the weight to hang properly when worn by a man. The cheaper imports being made of a very light material do not hang right and many men buying the cheaper version are being put off ever wearing the real Scottish kilt entirely because of its cheap counterparts poor style and image.

Kilts irrespective of origin do not meet all three of the standards may still be sold as kilts but will denied the right to be called “Scottish Kilts”.

The same rules currently apply to Scotch Whisky which needs to be distilled in Scotland and then kept in oak barrels stored in Scotland for a minimum of three years. Looking at the European cheese industry we see similar examples with Greece being granted sole rights to the Feta cheese branding and The Netherlands protecting its Edam cheese name.

Yes I put up my hands and admit that the correct plural form of kilt is kilt not kilts but we wrote for people who were perhaps unaware of this Scottish tradition and felt this would be less confusing.

In future articles we will be featuring on how you can become a Laird or Lady in the exact same traditional way used by most of the clan chiefs over many centuries.

New Jersey Real Estate

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

New Jersey is often miscast as a less than nice place to live, when the truth is the garden state motto is accurate. New Jersey real estate prices reflect Atlantic Ocean influences. New Jersey has been depicted as a non-descript home of industry. Take a ride on the turnpike in the north and you’ll agree. Simply put, parts of the state are unattractive, but much of the rest is very nice.

New Jersey is that odd location where you want to avoid the bigger cities and live in the smaller towns. They represent gems on the eastern seaboard with low prices relative to the region. Move to New Jersey and you’ll be close to areas such as the gambling at Atlantic City, beaches on the Atlantic and large cities such as New York City.

Home to the famous and respected Princeton University, the town of Princeton is simply beautiful. You’ll find older historic homes, castle-like buildings and green, overgrown landscaping. While this is definitely a college town, the atmosphere fall more towards the study of intellectual discourse than toga parties. Home to such notable individuals as Albert Einstein, Princeton is a surprisingly quiet and a good place to raise a family.

If gambling is your game, Atlantic City is the spot on the East Coast. Sitting on the coast, this is the home of over the top casinos with a heavy influence of Trump. To be honest, Atlantic City is a take it or leave it place. The city has gone through major economic swings and is heavily influenced by the seasons. The winters can be depressing, but spring and summer can be a hoot with a mass of tourist livening up the area. Atlantic City is often described as a poor man’s Las Vegas, but it is more akin to the Reno area without the skiing and mountains.

New Jersey real estate prices are all over the map. Prices range from the mid $250,000s to as high as the $900,000s for homes. You’ll need to research the prices in your area of interest. The best place is to start at a New Jersey Realty Directory to find the most active agents.

On a positive note, appreciation rates are strong in New Jersey.

Get the Best Previously Owned Laptop

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

Notebooks have become necessary in our everyday lives; students require them to complete their homework while adults use them for business uses like storing and processing data. Netbooks are a step up from personal computers since you can bring them with you – for kids, in their schools and the library; for employees, to their offices and even cafeterias. If your college student has need for one, read a used notebook computers manual. It’s time you realize that you actually can buy one – a used notebook if the new ones are too expensive for you.

Buying a pre-owned notebook without getting advice from expert computer professionals is definitely not the way to go. Although most people say you just have to check the general condition of the notebook, you would have to ask why it is being sold in the first place. It would be prudent that you find acquaintances or family selling their portable computer instead of getting from online retailers that you have not been a customer of before. Family and colleagues can be asked honestly why they are selling the laptop – to acquire a new system would be one of the best reasons. This means that there is most probably, nothing wrong with previously-owned notebook.

If you have friends and family who could recommend reputable previously-owned laptop vendors, it would be good to try those vendors first. As soon as you find something affordable, take the time to have it inspected by a computer technician that you trust, someone that you have known for more than a year. Of course, if you do not have anyone in mind, you can again ask aid from acquaintances and relatives. Previously-owned notebook computers would need care from the next user, since they are most often refurbished or have gone through formatting and changes in hardware. Try to find the best used notebook by becoming an educated buyer.

Loving Your Horse Nutritionally!

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

Horses are beautiful animals! They are graceful, smart and intuitive. Watching them as they gallop is always a sight worth seeing. It is no wonder that horses have captured the hearts of so many of us.

Whether your horse is a working horse, a competitive horse or for personal pleasure, equine nutrition really makes a difference to a horse’s welfare. Overall healthiness, a beautiful coat and healthy hooves is what every horse owner wants to achieve.

I’ve discovered on top of regular feed, many horse owners have found TAHITIAN NONI® Equine EssentialsTM to be very effective. They said they could see their horse’s coats look shinier and that they look so much healthier. Part of the reason for that is it boosts the immune system. Everyone agreed that Equine EssentialsTM was simple to use: 2 oz twice a day by top dressing or mixing in grain.

Competitors found that after a month or two on this product that the training sessions became more productive; the horses had more energy and endurance. As I researched this more I soon found out that TAHITIAN NONI® Equine EssentialsTM boosts the metabolic system aiding in increased energy and vitality; it helps the digestive system, the circulatory system, right down to the tissues and cells. I can see how this would give competitors a healthy advantage. Another thing they noticed was that their stress level noticeably decreased before and during a competition. Too much stress from being transported in trailers and being in unfamiliar venues can sap the energy before competition.

Feeding your horses healthily is one of the best things you can do. Giving them the best nutritional diet will give them a longer, better and more contented lifespan.

Twitter Worm

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Blink182Tweets.com is a safe way to keep up to date with band Twitter updates without leaving yourself open to malicious attacks that are currently going around Twitter.com

A “worm” spreading spam messages promoting another website was first introduced into Twitter in the early hours of Saturday.

Within hours it had spread across the network, infecting scores of accounts and forcing administrators to delete 10,000 messages to stop it infiltrating further.

Users spread the virus simply by clicking onto an infected page.

They then began unwittingly sending out messages – or “tweets” – to other users promoting the site StalkDaily.com.

Despite efforts to curb the virus, Twitter was hit by a second, more intense, bout of attacks later in the day and another early on Sunday.

Twitter then announced early on Monday that it was facing a new “manifestation” of the worm. Messages advised users not to click on links until the problem was rectified.

The website emphasised that no sensitive information such as passwords or telephone numbers had been compromised and suggested it would take legal action against the perpetrators.

A worm is a computer programme which spreads through a network by making copies of itself when users inadvertently click on something.

According to the Twitter news service BNO, a teenager from New York claimed responsibility for the worm “Mikeyy” saying that he had been bored.

He said that he had been trying to highlight ways in which the phenomenally popular site could be vulnerable to hackers.

“I did this out of boredom to be honest,” he was quoted as saying.

“I usually like to find vulnerabilities within websites and try not to cause too much damage.”

Twitter – a so-called “micro-blogging” service – has seen phenomenal growth in the last year rivalling Facebook and MySpace as one of the most popular social networking sites among British users.

It played a key role in the US election with candidates including Barack Obama posting messages on the site and British celebrities such as Stephen Fry have also become high profile users.

Users post short tweets either directly onto the site or by mobile phone.

These are then forwarded on to their network of friends and contacts.

The Ideal Diamond Earrings

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Diamonds are considered to be the most valuable type of gem, and this explains why they cost a fortune. So if you opt for real diamonds, make sure that the money you will spent is indeed worth the buy. There are several factors to be considered in choosing  your favorit diamond earrings that will fairly match the money that you are willing to spend. Among these factors are color, clarity, cut, and symmetry.

Which Color is the Best?

The first characteristic to consider is the color. The so-called fire or spectrum of colors is truly a great sight to behold, especially for colorless diamonds. The transparency of this gem serves as the prism that divides the colors, paving the way to its spread, or burst. Colored diamonds, however, can block the light, and, thus, fewer colors are reflected. The color of diamonds may range from D to Z, with D referring to colorless types. The more the colors, the less light burst or spread. Color is one of the vital factors considered in determining the price or value.

How Clear Should It be?

Diamonds that are free from stains are the most expensive. Clarity does not actually mean free from flaws since original diamonds have scratches or inclusions that may seemingly affect the beauty of the gem, but they are often not clearly seen by the naked eye unless it is closely inspected. Other inclusions like small particles of crystals or metals can also affect its clarity, but it may not actually affect the price unless you are trained enough to see it. It may even require a special type of magnifying glass to know if there are inclusions or scratches.

How About the Cut?

Cut does not actually refer to shape of the diamond but rather to proportions of the sides, including the depth and width. The cut of a diamond can affect its brilliance and durability. The diamond may have the perfect clarity and color, but its beauty can still be negatively affected if the cut is not properly made. The brilliance is specifically determined by the roundness, width, and depth of cuts which may have the greatest effects on the overall beauty of the gem. The reflection of the light is also dependent on the proportions of the cut.

Symmetry?

Symmetry refers to the pattern of alignment of the surfaces of facets comprising the diamond. It can be measured in grades, which may range from good to very good on up to excellent. Perfect symmetry can project the light that enters into the diamond. Poor symmetry, however, can also cause poor direction of light.
