Technology Distractions Lead to a Decrease in Productivity

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Office workers’ attention is being diverted every three minutes by answering the phone, being alerted to an incoming email, responding to an alert on their BlackBerry, reacting to an instant message or a Tweet, or clicking on internet-based distractions such as YouTube or Facebook. These distractions consume much as 28% of an average knowledge workers’ day (Basex research).

As we receive more and more e-mail messages and other technology-based interruptions, it can feel like being hit by a digital deluge. Without the skills to manage e-mail and other devices effectively, many people are wasting time just trying to keep up instead of gaining productivity through technology.

These tactics for distraction management can significantly increase your productivity:

1. Turn off the alarm or visual alerts: You wouldn’t let the postman empty a mailbag on your desk 50 times a day and you certainly wouldn’t let them ring a bell with each delivery. That’s exactly what you are doing if you check each e-mail when it arrives. Turn off the alarm or visual alert and take control of your e-mail and your time.

2. Learn how to turn off or manage alerts on mobile devices: As more and more people synchronize their phones and mobile devices they are being distracted by email alerts, meeting reminders at all sorts of inconvenient times. These alerts can ensure you are being distracted at home as well as work!

3. Treat e-mail like regular mail: Try to check your e-mail at regular times in the day, i.e. early morning, mid-day and late afternoon. Even if you receive a high volume of e-mails, you shouldn’t check more than four times a day. Checking email regularly can give you a very busy feeling but it is deceptive as it is unlikely you are focusing on your key priorities.

4. Take control of your in-box: Subscribe to e-mail services selectively. Ask friends or colleagues who frequently send jokes or huge files to stop. Get a separate e-mail address for personal communication or one that you give just to key contacts, similar to an unlisted phone number. Set up rules to automatically delete or file low priority emails.

5. Focus on your priorities: Commit 10 -15 minutes each day to plan for the next day. Ensure as part of this process you make “appointments with yourself” to focus on key priorities and projects.

E-mail, mobile devices, instant messaging and the like can save businesses considerable time and money, but managing these tools is a skill that’s just as important to acquire as other essential management skills such as communication, planning and prioritizing.

So Are You in the Zone (Diet that is)?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

What is the Zone Diet (and some more tid-bits).

Did you know that the word ‘diet’ is actually a Greek word? YES! It means “way of life”. This diet give you the ability to control your genes. Huh? Okay, it will be explained. Because of this ability, you will feel your energy soar. Not only that, it eliminates your hunger and helps you to lose weight as well. You are the one that has the ultimate control over your wellness with the Zone Diet.

The main purpose for this diet is to maintain and balance out your hormones. It consists of low fat protein, low glycemic load carbs. These are carbs that are from fruits and vegetables. This diet helps to fight hunger and those cravings. It balances all of the essentials that your body needs. You basically consume in moderation carbohydrates, protein and then, of course, there are fats.

An even more in depth look is into what we need and what they mean. Insulin is something that our body uses to store hormones. storing too much is really bad for you, however, it is necessary to have some in your diet. There is another hormone that enables the body to release carbs and stabilizes blood sugar levels. This element is essential for mental and physical abilities. There is another hormone that controls the silent inflammation that is triggered by the insulin. The goal is to maintain and balance your hormones.

What makes People Chose Zone?

There may be more to it than merely losing weight. Some people may want to go on the diet so that they can maintain their health on a regular basis. There are a few good reasons why people chose to stay on this diet. There are positive reasons to keep to this diet because it balances many things including your mentality and fertility. It is in the hormones that seem to make our bodies function. Well, if that alone is not enough to convince you to become a Zone Dieter, maybe you can gain inspiration from famous people like Jennifer Aniston, Cindy Crawford, Tiger Woods, Renee Zellwenger and even Tom Cruise. They have all faithfully followed this trendy diet.

There is Always Going to be the Pros and the Cons in Any Diet.

A major con if that the Food and Drug Administration does not condone this diet. They are not for it because of the fact that the diet is high in protein and there is a lack of the nutrients that our bodies need. No to mention very few studies have been conducted on the long term effects of the diet. Because of the criticism from the dieters who like to eat just vegetables and vegan eaters who rely on only vegetables on a daily basis, the Zone diet can be supplemented with soy protein to accommodate our vegan friends.

As with any diet, you will have to actually take part in it to see whether or not it is the right diet for you. It is highly recommended that you consult with your doctor before trying any diet. Doctors know your body even better then you do. They will definitely know whether or not this is the right diet for you. As far as results are concerned, there is only one way that you will know for sure and that is to TRY IT for yourself!

There will always be critics but the ultimate test is what works for you. You will know this by trying the diet. Hey, if it worked for one of the fattest men in the world (who topped 1200 pounds), it may very well work for you as well. This man seems to be healthy but he cannot do normal activities because of his weight. He is on this diet and it seems to be working well for him. It is not always about appetite control but more about keeping your food cravings and hunger down to a bare minimum. Not all diets are for everyone but as it was mentioned earlier, there is no way of knowing until we try them for ourselves.

The master mind behind the diet, Dr. Sears, strives to work with each patient. He teamed up with Mexican doctors to aid in helping the obese patient. He has books written to help guide you. Each patient has his or her own individual needs and must being willing to try to lose weight and maintain it by following instructions. Reading about a diet will sometimes let us know whether or not it is for us as well.

Finding a Marbella Apartments Holiday

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

It is easy to book your private holiday apartments in Marbella Spain these days due to the excellent range of professional websites providing property owners with numerous opportunities to rent out their apartments to holiday makers seeking to book a holiday.

With package holiday firms finding it increasingly difficult to attract customers due to the perceived high profits being made by the likes of Thomson Holidays, Thomas Cook etc. The public are realising that web sites such as those specialising in regions such as Marbella, Nerja and Javea all provide a variety of apartments at a range of price points to suit the individual looking for a better value holiday apartment vacation.

In fact the ease in which low cost flights can be booked separately has revolutionised the freedom to book holiday apartments etc at a far higher quality than you can expect to receive from a traditional package holiday supplier!   The result of which is that even the large holiday firms are developing their services to include separate villa options with and without flights to more varied destinations in a hope to keep the holiday maker.

its a personal choice of course when it comes to booking a holiday, in my experience a like for like holiday – one being a package holiday – the other being a private apartment rental, the level of comfort and quality furnishings typically found in private holiday apartments with firms such as RentIn-Marbella or RentIn-Nerja for instance is eqivalent to a  four star or five star package holiday resort.  Yet is usually between 20%-50% cheaper than the eqivalent standard of a traditional package holiday when all costs are added together.

Is there a safe Energy Drink?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

The Energy drink Market is fraught with peril! You now have to attempt to navigate a huge assortment of potentially Dangerous products to try and fin even one that works that won’t put you in the hospital. Below you will see just a few of the excerpts from the FREE report Dying For Energy! the Life Threatening Dangers of the Energy Drink Market. But thank goodness there is an alternative, which you will learn about in the Free Report.

Please read the following short excerpts to get a small taste of the secrets the Energy Drink Market doesn’t want you to EVER know about. Energy drinks have become increasingly popular, especially with teens and young adults, and more than 500 new energy drinks have launched worldwide last year. But experts are questioning whether people are harming their health by drinking them.

Most energy drinks are just marketing ploys, according to Mark Kantor, professor of family and consumer sciences and nutrition at the University of Maryland, who specializes in consumer education. “I’m not aware of any scientific data that they do what they say they’re going to do,” He said “They don’t give you more energy.” For the most part, they are nothing much more than a can full of caffeine and a lot of sugar.Taken from: enzyme-health blogspot/2009/02/vitamin-supplement-paradox

The concept of the “energy drink” is a relatively new phenomenon. Brands such as Red Bull, Venom, Rockstar and Monster began appearing in the last few decades and have become extremely popular among young people. But new research by John’s Hopkins presents a stark warning about these so-called “high energy” soft drinks: many of them contain levels of caffeine high enough to endanger your physical health.

While many researchers believe that a small amount of caffeine (such as found in the ubiquitous morning cup of coffee) can actually be good for you, Roland Griffiths, a researcher from Johns Hopkins, points out that most energy drinks contain upwards of 10 mg of caffeine per each ounce. This amounts to 14 times more caffeine than in the average soft drink. It is the equivalent of drinking 7 cups of regular caffeinated coffee within a five-minute period.Taken from: romow.com/health-blog/common-but-dangerous-eye-diseases/

Some trendy new energy drinks are making the rounds these days. But they’re also making some people sick. Attorney Mike Bryant has a revealing report on the reason why in today’s Consumer Pay-off.

Most people don’t seem to know what’s in it, but Red Bull and other energy drinks are powerful stimulants that can have some pretty sobering side effects. And their catchy ads are making Red Bull a hit with teens too!Taken from:telepixtvcgi.warnerbros/dailynews/consumer/12_00/12_07

Billabong, Xterra or Rip Curl? Which Wetsuit is Right for Me?

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

A well made, properly fitted wetsuit goes a long way in maximizing your enjoyment of water sports. Whether you’re involved in scuba, jet skiing, surfing or triathlons, there are things you should consider before investing in high-tech water gear. Start with these 7 questions:

  • What is the chief purpose for my suit? Is it warmth, protection from abrasions, buoyancy, or protection from the sun? Buy gear specifically suited for your sport.
  • What price range can I afford? Do your homework, and don’t forget to factor in shipping costs and the value of a good warranty. Luxury wetsuits come with extra features. Look for a design you can live with at a price you can afford. A Billabong wetsuit such as the Solution Gold 5/4/3 mm Steamer, for example, is a full bodysuit treated with Dry Max Coating and made with the company’s second generation Superflex neoprene – reportedly “the most advanced stretch material on the market today.” The wetsuit also features Gold Hollow Fiber Brushed Tricot Thermal Material in the back and chest panel. It runs in the $245 range. You can find an O Neill wetsuit or a Ripcurl wetsuit with similar features.
  • Is the wetsuit made of multi-directional fabric that will give in the right places, allowing ease of movement? Surfers need a wetsuit with super-stretch neoprene (30-100%) to allow for mobility while throwing tricks. A jet ski junkie in New England, however, might be looking for a suit that conserves body heat – something with thicker neoprene specs.
  • Where are seams placed on the wetsuit? Chafing is a real issue, especially when raw skin and salt water kiss. Body gear suitable for windsurfing might not be comfortable for surfers who have to paddle their boards out to meet waves. Take note of seam placement. Also look for terms like “flat-lock stitching,” which is appropriate for warm water above 62 degrees F. “Glued and blind-stitched seams” are narrower and seal out cold water 55 degrees F and up. “Sealed and taped seams” add increased durability and prevent seepage in water below 55 degrees F.
  • Do I need a warm or a cool-water suit? Is the material light enough for scorching days at El Martillo or designed for semi-dry protection needed for kayaking Alaska’s waterways in the fall? Check the thickness of the material which usually ranges from 2 millimeters of neoprene for warm-weather suits up to 4-6 millimeters of material for cold-water environments.
  • Do I need booties, gloves or a hood? They’ll add to the cost.
  • Is the suit loose, snug or tight? Snug is where you want to be. If it’s too tight, your movements will be restricted and you will chafe. If it’s too loose, heat conservation will be minimized, and the bodysuit may slide around hindering range of motion. Pay close attention to sizing charts. If possible, go to a store and try the wetsuit on. Many reputable businesses let you try out the wetsuit in the water and permit size exchanges.

Review of Kingsdown Mattresses – Choosing Top of the Range Kingsdown Beds

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

Purchasing a mattress that is both comfortable but highly supportive is very important, but it’s often the case that we can’t afford to spend several hundred on a top of the range memory foam mattress. The range of Kingsdown beds have been on the market for a while now, and have built up a strong reputation for providing value for money products.

The BodyDiagnostics system is one of the most talked about features of Kingsdown mattress models. What this does is to calculate the sleep surface that is ideal for individual users to achieve pressure relief and postural support.

There are 3 main mattress models from Kingsdown; the Perfect Partner, Body System and Plush Sense. Here’s a brief look at the different models:

Plush Sense Mattress -

This model of Kingsdown mattress offers supreme comfort, is hypoallergenic and breathable, and also uses a full coil system to provide the high quality support.

Body System Mattress -

The full coil system in the Body System mattress helps give your back and spine the support it needs when you are sleeping.

Perfect Partner Mattress -

The Perfect Partner mattress claims that it is the world’s most technologically advanced mattress. The mattress cushions any movement so that sleeping partners feel less of the jolting motion when they move around at night.

In addition to the Kingsdown mattresses mentioned above, there are also several others. These include the BodySystem, BodyDuet, BodyBlend and BodyCaress mattresses.

Kingsdown mattress models have a Full Body Surround and Cushion Cloud Construction. Better weight distribution is achieved using the Cushion Cloud Construction, which relieves pressure points and in turn reduces movement during the night. The Full Body Surround system improves the mattress by surrounding the core with side, bottom and top supports, which provides great edge support, full sleep surface and a surface that provides pressure relief. There are a few other mattress brands that also offer great sleeping surfaces, such as Jamison mattress models.

There are a lot of good features in addition to those we’ve mentioned in this Kingsdown mattress review, all of which help boost the reputation of the brand. Kingsdown are a mattress brand that are well worth checking out, in addition to other top names like the Englander mattress.

Hawaii Vacation Homes: Experience a Vacation in Paradise

Monday, September 28th, 2009

You are certainly not alone if you’re considering a vacation to Hawaii. The Hawaiian Islands are one of the top ranked vacation spots not only in the USA, but also in the whole world. Its sun-drenched beaches, tourist attractions, and spectacular landscape invite many regularly but some are discouraged because of cost or difficulty. The solution to this problem is to stay at a Hawaii rental, which will make your visit easy and relatively inexpensive.

Due to Hawaii being such a desired vacation destination, a Hawaii hotel reservation is normally booked months ahead, and in the most popular winter months reservations can be a year in advance. This makes it difficult, if not impossible, to reserve rooms — especially if they are oceanfront or oceanview. Fortunately, you don’t have to stay in a hotel. The selection of Hawaii vacation home rentals is very diverse.

If you wish to rent a property in Hawaii, there is no shortage of options from which to choose. These include condominiums, town houses, apartments, and houses with up to 5 bedrooms, or more. Full size houses are, of course the costliest of these rental properties. That said, there are price fluctuations and its best to inquire prior to making a decision on which property to rent.

Choosing a vacation in Hawaii involves a number of exciting choices. Although tourists can’t visit every island in the archipelago, an Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Kauai or Big Island vacation home is a widely popular alternative to staying at a crowded hotel.

There are numerous advantages to choosing a rental property as opposed to a hotel. Rental properties frequently have more amenities such as full kitchens, fenced backyards offering private sunbathing, enclosed parking, large screen TVs and DVD players. These are amenities you generally will not find in a standard hotel. For a complete listing of amenities available with each vacation rental property, visit our website.
